Sports fans have likely noticed that at sporting events around the country, including the College Football Playoff games over the weekend, the American flag has been flown at half-mast in honor of fallen United States President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at 100 years old earlier this week.
The flag will continue to fly at half-staff for 30 days after his death. However, Donald Trump does not seem happy about that.
Since Jimmy Carter passed away on Dec. 29, the flag will be flown at half-mast through Donald Trump’s inauguration, which is set to take place on Jan. 20. And he’s clearly not happy about it.
In a post on Truth Social this week, Trump sent a pretty brutal message as he expressed his outrage that the flag will continue to fly at half past in honor of Jimmy Carter.
Trump went as far as to say that “nobody wants to see this.”
“The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration,” wrote Trump. “They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – It’s a total mess!”
“In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast,” he continued. “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
It’s worth noting that the White House has denied Trump’s request to allow the flag to be flown at full height during his inauguration.
When asked whether or not the White House would reconsider the customary 30-day half-mast honor for Carter, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had a pretty blunt response: “No.”
Clearly, the flag will continue to be at half-mast in honor of Carter whether Trump likes it or not.
