Sports fans have likely noticed that at sporting events across the country, such as the College Football Playoff games earlier in the week, that the American flag has been flown at half-mast due to the death of former United States President Jimmy Carter, who passed away earlier this week at 100 years old.
The flag is set to stay at half-staff for 30 days following his death – and that’s causing quite a problem for Donald Trump.
Since Carter passed away on Dec. 29, the flag will continue to be flown at half-mast through Trump’s inauguration, which is scheduled for Jan. 20. And Trump is not at all happy about it.
In a post on Truth Social this week, Trump expressed his outrage at the decision to keep the flag at half-mast. Trump went as far as to claim that “nobody wants to see” the flag lowered for this occasion.
“The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration,” wrote Trump. “They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – It’s a total mess!”
“In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast,” he continued. “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Needless to say, Trump’s outrage led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“Turns out Jimmy Carter waited 100 years to time his demise for maximum brain-busting effect upon his thinnest-skinned successor,” one person wrote on X.
“Honor President Carter. Be a man. Humility is strength. Insecurity is weakness,” another person said.
“Just the upcoming president literally crying on social media cause a former president died and the flag won’t be a full mast,” someone else wrote.
“Love Trump but it is normal to have a 30 day half mast flag after the death of a President,” another person added.
“This disgrace of a human is upset because flags will be flying at half mast during his Inauguration because of the death of a former President. THIS is what triggers him. How anyone could have voted for this dirtbag will be something I’ll never, ever understand,” someone else said.
“Has anyone ever sunk lower as many times as this imbecile? How low can he go? Stay tuned,” another person wrote.
“Of course he is wrong here. Flags were flown at half mast at Nixon’s 2nd Inauguration (1973), after President Truman had died in December 1972,” someone else said.
“I’m much more interested in honoring the memory of Jimmy Carter than I am acknowledging your inauguration,” another person added.
Despite Trump’s outrage, the White House has confirmed that the flag will remain at half-mast in honor of Carter.
