Last presidential election cycle, San Francisco Giants principal owner Charles Johnson was a prominent supporter of former United States President Donald Trump. But as the Republican primary unfolds with Trump facing off against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a battle for the Republican nomination, it looks like Johnson is switching allegiances.
According to a report from political writer Alex Shultz of SFGate, Charles Johnson has given a maximum donation to the Ron DeSantis campaign, even though the San Francisco Giants owner was previously a major financial supporter of the Donald Trump campaign.
“SF Giants principal owner Charles Johnson recently maxed out a $6600 donation (most you can give for primary + general election) to Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign, according to FEC filings. Seems DeSantis is his 2024 candidate of choice,” Shultz said in a tweet.

Johnson’s choice to financially support a Republican candidate is in no way shocking as he has quite a history with the Republican party.
Over the years, he has been one of the largest donors to Republican political campaigns in the entire country, contributing over $900,000 to the campaigns of Mitt Romney, John Boehner, and Ben Quayle between 2000 and mid-2015 before becoming a major supporter of Trump as well.
It’s not exactly surprising that he is once again throwing his support behind a Republican, but it is pretty surprising to see him suddenly dump Trump for DeSantis.
