Former United States President Donald Trump has never shied away from sharing some controversial opinions, and he did it once again earlier this month when he criticized the prisoner swap that freed WNBA superstar Brittney Griner from a Russian penal colony.

Brittney Griner spent nearly 10 months in Russian custody following her arrest in Moscow after authorities found a small amount of prescription cannabis oil in her luggage while she was leaving the country. Griner was ultimately freed when the United States traded convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout for her freedom – a move that was clearly unpopular to Trump.

During a recent interview with YouTuber Logan Paul on his “Impaulsive” podcast earlier this month, Donald Trump had some harsh words about Griner and the trade, saying it was “not the greatest trade” while also blasting Brittney Griner for refusing to stand for the national anthem a few years ago.

Trump called Bout a “great arms dealer” and complained that he was traded for “the basketball player who wouldn’t stand up for the national anthem. She thought that was a good time to tie her sneakers. And that was not exactly the greatest trade. But he gave 6 billion dollars on top of it. Six billion, billion with a B, and they don’t know what they’re doing.”

Needless to say, this opinion sparked some outrage.

Even years later, Trump was clearly not happy with the trade.
