Stephen A. Smith has never shied away from speaking his mind. President-elect Donald Trump has been about as controversial a President as there’s been in the United States, but Smith recently made it clear that he’s not buying into all of the divisiveness, even though he has previously shown public support for the Democrats.

Smith debated with Bill Maher whether Trump was racist, and his take was surprising given his normal political affiliation.

“If we’re being totally honest, all the brothers found him to be cool. They found him to be very cool. So, let’s be clear. Because he knew his sports, all right? He would say what he feel, he bucked the establishment, which we love, and we gravitated to that,” Smith said.

“I have never called him a racist. I have never spoken about him that way. Ever. Not one time. Not one time. Because I knew him beforehand.”

Fans reacted to the message on social media.

“Look at Bill Maher trying to distance himself from ever having TDS. See the snake in motion,” one fan said on Twitter.

“Seems like even Stephen A. and Bill Maher are waking up to the truth. Trump’s always been real with everyone,” a Trump fan added.

“Fascinating. Why can’t we get this Stephen A on first take. It would be great!” one fan added.

“Why Bill Maher no longer keeps his stance? He should hate trump like he used to do,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Trump decides to respond to Smith’s surprising show of support.
