Canadian professional April Hutchinson could be facing a two-year ban from the sport for comments that she made criticizing the participation of transgender athletes in the sport.
April Hutchinson has been outspoken in speaking against transgender women participating in the sport, and in a post on social media, Hutchinson shared a letter from the Canadian Powerlifting Union detailing potential disciplinary action.
“BREAKING: I now face a 2-year ban by the CPU for speaking publicly about the unfairness of biological males being allowed to taunt female competitors & loot their winnings,” professional powerlifter April Hutchinson wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter. “Apparently, I have failed in my gender-role duties as ‘supporting actress’ in the horror show that is my #sport right now.”

Hutchinson shared what she claims is a letter from the Canadian Powerlifting Union which claims “there was sufficient evidence” to show that Hutchinson violated the Code of Conduct and the Social Media policy.
“Upon discussing the current case, the panel had determined that there was sufficient evidence to support sanctions as a result of multiple violations of both Code of Conduct and the Social Media policy. It has been determined that there is sufficient evidence for Major Infraction as a result of repeating offences, including prior warnings,” the letter shared by Hutchinson said.
This news comes after Hutchinson said during an interview with Piers Morgan that powerlifting is a “pure strength sport” and claimed that males have “60 to 70 percent advantage over females.”
