During the summer, the United States Women’s National Team made headlines at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after many members of the team chose not to sing the national anthem before matches. And it seems that USA Olympic hockey legend Mike Eruzione took notice.
This week, the United States junior hockey team won gold at the World Junior Championships, defeating Sweden in the championship medal game. During the gold medal ceremony, the team could be seen loudly and proudly singing the United States national anthem.
Eruzione used this viral video to criticize the U.S. women’s team.
“Who says today’s kids? Don’t love our country. Wow what a great display of pride. Well done boys,” Eruzione said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

In a follow-up post, Eruzione called out the United States Women’s National Team, which made headlines over the summer after many members of the team stayed silent during the playing of the national anthem before their games at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“I wonder what our women’s soccer team would think of this,” Eruzione said in the post.

It’s clear that Eruzione was not pleased with the women’s team’s decision not to sing the national anthem. But he was quite happy with the USA junior team.
