The opening ceremony at the 2024 Paris Olympic games included a rather controversial portion that upset quite a few people, and it seems like Donald Trump was not happy about it.
During one portion of the opening ceremony, drag queens and other performers were used in what appeared to
be a parody of the Leonardo da Vinci painting “The Last Supper,” which depicts Jesus sharing a final meal with his disciples before his crucifixion.
The scene caused outrage among some Christians who believed that it mocked Jesus and Christianity, and Trump was quick to condemn it during an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle” on Fox News on Monday as he called it “a disgrace.”
“I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace, actually,” Trump said on the show according to the New York Post. “I thought it was a disgrace.”
Trump said that when the United States hosts the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles in four years, they will not be doing anything like this in the opening ceremony.
“We won’t be having a Last Supper as portrayed the way they portrayed it the other night,” he said.
“I mean, they can do certain things. I thought it was terrible. Look, I’m for everybody. I’m very open-minded… but I thought what they did was a disgrace.”
It’s worth noting that the portion of the opening ceremony was not actually a parody of The Last Supper. Instead, it was a nod to the Festival of Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, wine and revelry.
