Holding a 2-1 lead with just over a minute remaining in Thursday’s women’s ice hockey final, Team USA nearly iced a gold medal with some help from a linesman. As you can see in the GIF above, a linesman interfered with a Canadian defenseman, allowing USA to get a shot at the empty net. The puck hit the post and Canada regained possession.
Just seconds later, Canada was able to tie it and force overtime.
A bevy of penalties (including one that arguably could have given Canada a penalty shot) landed the Canadians with a 4-on-3 power play, which they converted on to win the gold.
