For about a decade and a half, Alex Morgan has been one of the most iconic and dominant women’s soccer players on the planet as she has helped lead the United States Women’s National Team to back-to-back World Cup victories and an Olympic gold medal. But when the USWNT heads to Paris for the upcoming 2024 Olympic games this summer, Morgan will not be joining them.
On Wednesday, the USWNT officially released its roster ahead of the upcoming Olympic games, and United State soccer legend Alex Morgan did not make the cut.
She expressed her disappointment on social media but also indicated that she will still be supporting the team at the upcoming Olympics.
“Today, I’m disappointed about not having the opportunity to represent our country on the Olympic stage. This will always be a tournament that is close to my heart and I take immense pride any time I put on the crest. In less than a month, I look forward to supporting this team and cheering them on alongside the rest of our country,” Morgan said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

While Morgan had a classy response to missing the Olympics, the decision sparked outrage from a lot of fans.

I know very little about soccer but the fact that someone as decorated, gifted, talented, accomplished & well known as @alexmorgan13, is not on the Olympic team, blows my mind. Make it make sense. https://t.co/w1foqpR2SR

They could have brought her, kept her on the bench and then made her play the last 10-15 minutes when they're winning 3-0 against an easy opponent. That's what you do with Football legends eager to play one more time, be it the World Cup or the Olympics. https://t.co/4elaYRTqyr

This is wild. The US needs her leadership and experience this summer and you’re going to see where they’re lacking without her on the pitch https://t.co/iQCAWy3FUp
