The Winnipeg Jets had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad night against the Capitals in Washington on Thursday.
Not only did the Jets lose to the Caps by a blowout score of 5-1, they also gave up a goal on one of the most embarrassing sequences of hockey we’ve seen so far this season. On a penalty kill late in the second period, the Jets sloppy line change along the benches allowed the Caps to carry the puck in on Winnipeg’s net with a 4-on-1 man advantage.
As you can imagine, it didn’t end well for the away team.
Not only did the Caps score pretty easily to take a 4-1 lead, but Winnipeg ended up being penalized on the play for Too Many Men…TOO MANY MEN! The Jets still had to serve the two minutes (despite the goal) because the Caps were already on the power play.
The only way this could have been more embarrassing for Winnipeg is if they surrendered a goal on the ensuing PP as well.
