Rarely, do I come across a story where I’m horrified just reading the headline, but in the case of Columbus Blue Jackets’ prospect Carson Meyer and his latest illness, I’m freaked out.
According to The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline, the Miami (Ohio) NCAA player was feeling ill for most of last season. Without being able to explain his weight loss and fatigue, one February day, Meyer got answers after going to the bathroom.
The dude pooped out a 25-inch …. cringes …. tapeworm.
Here’s the experience described by Meyer.
“I was going to the bathroom, just like normal,” Meyer said. “And it came out.”
It was a 25-inch tapeworm — the head, the neck and all of the segments, about 50 of them. It was orange. Meyer almost fainted.
“I Face-timed my mom and was like, ‘What the hell is this thing?’ ” Meyer said. “I was freaking out. Absolutely freaking out.”
The worm scientifically named diphyllobothrium latum can occur when undercooked fish is eaten. Meyer says he’s avoiding fish from this point forward and you know what, I can’t blame him.
To make this story more heartwarming, his teammates named his tapeworm “Teddy.” Ew.
