Rahm Emanuel needs a brief history lesson. The Chicago mayor has conveniently forgotten that Blackhawks fans had little interest in the city’s hockey team when they were losing. Although the city is now full of passionate fans, a decade-long run of futility from late 1990s into the late 2000s left United Center mostly empty and Chicagoans carrying very little about the hometown team.
Sorry, Rahm, but a few titles and renewed interest from one of the world’s most notoriously fair-weather fan bases doesn’t equate to Chicago being known as “Hockey Town USA”, which the Red Wings kindly reminded him of:
Mayor Emanuel: “Chicago will be Hockey Town USA.”
