To say it’s been a tumultuous week for Martin St. Louis would probably be a immense understatement. While still entrenched in an Eastern Conference Semi-Final series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis found out on Thursday that his mother had unexpectedly passed away after suffering a heart attack at the age of 63.

The next day, St. Louis played in Game 5 – a possible elimination game for the Rangers – and helped the Bleushirts to a 5-1 throttling of the Pens in Pittsburgh.

On Sunday, with his father and sister in attendance at Madison Square Garden, Marty scored Game 6’s opening goal on Mother’s Day. It was an incredibly emotional moment for the veteran forward, and one that was so great that it almost seemed scripted. St. Louis made sure to keep the puck, which, undoubtedly, will become an extremely special memento for him.
