According to L.A. Kings GM Dean Lombardi, the team has agreed to terms with Conn Smythe-winning goaltender Jonathan Quick for a 10-year contract extension. This is amazing news for the Kings, who have already set their sights on a repeat. It is apparent that Lombardi’s plan is to keep the team pretty much the same. Jarret Stoll and Colin Fraser have both just been re-signed, leaving Dustin Penner as the only remaining unrestricted free agent come July 1st. Quick’s new deal can’t be signed until July 1st under the collective bargaining agreement, but Kings fans everywhere can take a sigh of relief knowing that their MVP will be back for many years to come.

For the Kings, this deal secures yet another top player for a long period of time. Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar will be free agents in the year 2014 and 2016 respectively, but the rest of the top guys are secured in multi-year deals. Mike Richards won’t become a free agent until 2020, Drew Doughty until 2019, Jeff Carter until 2022, and now Jonathan Quick until 2023. I think it’s safe to say the rebuilding process of this team has been a success and that they will be a serious threat for many years to come.
