The Florida Panthers took a decisive 3-0 series lead over the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanely Cup Final earlier this month and appeared set to cruise toward their first Stanely Cup in team history. But then, Donald Trump made a post on social media that seems to have turned the tide in favor of the Oilers.

In the middle of Game 4, as the Florida Panthers were trying to pull off the sweep over the Oilers and bring home the Stanely Cup, Donald Trump apparently took notice and offered his praise and support to the Panthers, making it clear he was rooting for them to win the game and the cup.

“Wow, the Florida Panthers are a fantastic Ice Hockey Team. They’re 3-0 against the very good Edmonton Oilers from Canada. They’re down 1 to 0 tonight, but it’s still early. Hopefully they will put them away. Very impressive!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Apparently, that post has cursed the Panthers.

Following Trump’s post, things have gone quite poorly for the Panthers. Edmonton scored seven more goals in that game to ultimately win 8-1. And on Wednesday night, the Oilers won 5-3 in Florida to send the series back to Edmonton where the Oilers are favored in Game 6.

Only one team in NHL history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the Stanely Cup Final. But after Trump’s post, the Oilers seem to be in a strong position to possibly do it this year.

Needless to say, it seems like the Trump curse might be real, and it’s led to a lot of conversation on social media.

We’ll have to see if the Oilers can pull off the comeback.
