Hockey players (or any kind of athlete, really) faking an injury to draw a call is nothing new, but if you’re going to play pretend you might want to make sure you embellish with the correct body part.
Brad Marchand failed to follow that rule of thumb on Tuesday night in Detroit when he went down after being tripped by Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith. The contact from Smith clearly falls on Marchand’s left leg, yet the Bruins forward proceeded to clutch his right leg as he laid on the ice.
As Marchand skated off with the help of trainers, he, once again, made sure to protect his right leg.
Derp. But, hey, at least he got the call?
Update: It appears that Marchand may have tweaked the other knee on the landing:
Marchand told official he didn't have a big problem with Smith hit. Was more concerned with how he landed on other knee. #Bruins #RedWings
