The St. Louis Blues traveled to New Jersey for a matchup against the Devils on Tuesday night, and it was an evening they hope to soon forget. The Devils laid a beating a 7-1 beating on St. Louis and things just kept going from bad to worse all night.
The final goal of the night came off the stick of Devils defenseman Eric Gelinas, who fired a slapshot from center ice in an attempt to carom the puck along the endboards in the New Jersey offensive zone. Instead, the puck deflected off Blues defenseman Barret Jackman and wound up bouncing over the shoulder of goaltender Jaroslav Halak and in.
Halak, who replaced starter Brian Elliot midway through the tilt, appeared to lose the puck after the deflection and couldn’t react in time to keep it from rolling down his back and adding salt to the wound for the Blues.
