The Washington Capitals will be hosting the 2015 Winter Classic and today they’ve found out who they’ll be facing in the outdoor game – the Chicago Blackhawks. TSN’s Bob McKenzie broke the news on Friday morning.

This will be the second Winter Classic appearance from both teams – the Capitals took on the Penguins at Heinz Field in 2011 and the Blackhawks played host to the Red Wings at Wrigley Field in 2009. The Blackhawks also hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field last year for a Stadium Series game.
It’s an interesting choice for matchup considering the Caps and ‘Hawks don’t have a ton of history and most Winter Classic opponents tend to have somewhat of a rivalry. With that being said, with Alex Ovechkin, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews suiting up, there will be no shortage of star power in the game and on HBO’s ’24/7: Road To The Winter Classic’ coverage.
The venue for the game has still yet to be determined but Nationals Park is considered to be the most likely candidate.
