The Rockford Ice Hogs had a pretty frustrating day at the office on Friday night against the Chicago Wolves, losing to Chicago by a final score of 6-0.
Trailing by five goals towards the end of the second period, the frustration clearly got to Rockford defenseman Bobby Shea, who instigated a fight with Wolves star Ty Rattie after delivering an ugly high elbow that earned Shea a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
After the fight, the two players headed to their respective dressing rooms via rubber mats on both sides of the same tunnel. The only thing separating the two men was 15 feet of concrete between the mats, and that wasn’t enough to hold Shea back as he tried to get another piece of Rattie.
Shea dropped down on all fours and crawled across the concrete before confronting Rattie and exchanging a few blows before the cops broke it up. Rattie seemed to be pretty baffled by the whole thing, and why shouldn’t he be? That’s certainly one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen in my experience watching hockey.
Oddly enough, Shea was handed a SECOND game misconduct (another first as far as I can remember) and will probably receive some sort of supplementary discipline from the AHL.
