Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins have had a rough season, and it appears Hill is ready to move on from the team.
The Dolphins wrapped up their season with a 32-20 loss against the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon, a game in which Tyreek Hill recorded just two receptions for 20 yards.
This season is the first since 2019 in which Hill has finished with fewer than 1,000 receiving yards – a year when he missed four games due to injury. It also marks the first time in his career that his team did not make the playoffs.
After the loss, Hill was clearly frustrated with the outcome as he made it clear that he intends to leave the Dolphins in the offseason, saying bluntly, “I’m out, bruh.”
“I don’t even know, bruh,” Hill said, as reported by Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. “This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man, so, I mean, for me, I’ve just got to do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here, or wherever the case may be — I’m [about to] open that door for myself.
“Yeah, I’m opening the door — I’m out, bruh,” Hill continued. “So, it was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to do what’s best for my career and what’s best — because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
Earlier in the conversation, Hill emphasized his need to “reassess” various aspects of his career, including his future with the Dolphins.
“Man, it is what it is. It’s life,” Hill remarked. “I feel like at the end of the day, there’s a lot of things that I need to reassess about my career. Just see what I need to do to continue to get better as a player, so I can continue to reach that 1,000-yard mark. So, it is what it is.”
Needless to say, these comments led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“I think he’s just frustrated and embarrassed. I love Tyreek, at the same time if the Phins could get that money off the books and guarantee more running lanes for the RBs, I think Tua can cook with Parker, Hollins and Geisiki again,” one fan wrote on X.
“One thing I believe is some players quit on their team & coaches because they make less money if the season extends into the playoffs. Other players will play hard because they truly want to win or play for their head coach. I get the impression that Tyreek had BEEN wanted out,” another fan wrote.
“How about him being a Captian and help out another QB when Tua went down. This team quit when Tua went down. Cannot lose to the Titans, Cardinals and 4-12 Jets and expect to make the playoffs!” someone else added.
“Bet he regrets not worrying about those couple extra million bucks the Chiefs wouldn’t pay him now,” another person added.
“Hard to keep losing and the team you left keeps winning super bowls .. makes losing that much worse,” someone else pointed out.
“Been brewing for months,” another person speculated.
We’ll have to see whether or not Hill will indeed be playing elsewhere next season.
