Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagvailoa missed this weekend’s game against the Cleveland Browns, and it sounds like the team expects backup quarterback Tyler Huntley to see the most practice reps this week, too.
Tagovailoa missed Sunday’s game with a hip injury that he initially suffered in Week 15 and then aggravated in Week 16. The team held him out of Sunday’s game, allowing backup quarterback Tyler Huntley to start and lead them to victory.
Following Sunday’s win over the Cleveland Browns, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel admitted that he had “no idea” whether or not Tagovailoa would play this week.
During his Monday press conference, McDaniel did not have much more to say on the issue, but he did confirm that Huntley will see more reps than Tagovailoa as the team prepares to take on the New York Jets.
“Snoop will get more reps than Tua this week,” McDaniel said according to Pro Football Talk.
McDaniel said that Tagovailoa’s recovery is “all about time” and that his status for Sunday’s game is “firmly in the unknown.”
Needless to say, this is some pretty horrible news for Tagovailoa and the Dolphins as the team heads into a pivotal must-win game against the New York Jets, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“Give Snoop some credit. He was very rusty when he first started with the Dolphins this year. He looked like his Ravens version today. Looks like a legit starter in the league when he’s on,” someone wrote on X.
“Just retire already!” someone else said.
“Not worth dealing with this every year,” another person said of Tagovailoa’s health.
“They could play my daughter at QB and win,” someone else added.
We’ll have to see whether or not Tagovailoa will be able to play this week.
