The Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to get the train back on the tracks after an abysmal season that saw them miss the playoffs and resulted in the firing of head coach Doug Pederson. In an effort to get more help for quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Jags traded with the Cleveland Browns to move up in the draft and select cornerback/ wide receiver hybrid Travis Hunter with the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft/
Now, there has been a major development involving Hunter and the franchise, according to one prominent NFL insider.
“Travis Hunter officially signed his four-year, $46.65 million fully guaranteed contract. His $30.57 million signing bonus, paid entirely upfront, sets a new record—making him the first non-quarterback not drafted first overall to receive his entire signing bonus upfront. The deal was negotiated by Adie von Gontard and Ray Haija of Young Money APAA Sports,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“My prediction – Travis Hunter will set the Jaguar organization back years between the draft capital expended to trade up for him combined with cap allocation,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Good for him! Hopefully he’ll find his way to a decent franchise at some point in his career so he can compete for a SB!” one fan added.
“His dedication to his craft and relationship built wit coach prime really paid off. So many people who just didnt believe and now he is reaping the benefits for stayin down, staying focused & believing in himself,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Hunter is able to reward the Jaguars for their investment.
