When the New England Patriots and longtime head coach Bill Belichick decided to part ways earlier this month, Tom Brady made it pretty clear that thought Belichick was the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. But it sounds like Brady is pretty fond of his replacement, too.
Tom Brady was still the quarterback of the New England Patriots when Jerod Mayo joined the staff in 2019, and it sounds like Brady believes in him as he now takes over as the next head coach of the New England Patriots.
“A great captain, a great friend, I think [Mayo] had a tremendous amount of success in football, and then had success in other parts of his life when he retired. And then him coming back into coaching, I think is great for the NFL,” Brady said during an interview with ESPN according to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald. “It’s certainly great for the Patriots. He’s got a great understanding of how things need to be done.
“I think Jerod does an incredible job relating to everybody in the locker room, all the coaches, and I think he’ll do a great job.”
It’s certainly quite an endorsement from Brady. We’ll have to see how Mayo performs.
