Last year, Tom Brady invested in the English soccer club Birmingham City, becoming a part owner of the club and taking on the role of Chairman of the Advisory Board for the team. However, unfortunately for Brady and the club, things did not exactly go according to plan for the squad this year, and as a result, they’re now being sent down a league.
After finishing 22nd in the Championship this season, Birmingham City has been relegated down to League One following the first season with Tom Bady taking an ownership stake in the team. This marks just the first time since 1995 that has landed in the third-tier league.
And Brady doesn’t just have a ceremonial ownership role, either. He is quite involved with the squad.
“As Chairman of the Advisory Board, Brady will apply his extensive leadership experience and expertise across several components of the Club, including working alongside the sports science department to advise on health, nutrition, wellness, and recovery systems and programs. In addition, Brady will work closely with the Board and the management team on global marketing efforts and the identification of new commercial partnership opportunities for the Club,” the club explained of Brady’s role when he joined the ownership stake.
The relegation comes after the team decided to fire popular manager John Eustace in October when they were ranked No. 6 in the league table, in a playoff position. After deciding to hire Wayne Rooney in his place, the team plummeted all the way to 20th in the league in just 15 matches. Ironically enough, Birmingham City was relegated after Eustace led the Blackburn Rovers to victory on Saturday.
It’s pretty horrible news for Brady as he hoped to make an improvement for the team.
