Three days after he was suspended for six games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy for a third time, the Giants have decided to part ways with safety Will Hill.
Hill was an undrafted free agent when he signed with Big Blue and he played very well last season as a replacement for Stevie Brown. Unfortunately, it appears that while Hill could learn the Giants’ playbook, he couldn’t learn to change bad habits.
Hill has more substance abuse violations than the Giants have had playoff appearances over the last three years. He was suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season and the first four games of the 2013 season. In between those suspensions, Hill was very good. In 2013 as a starter opposite Antrel Rolle, Hill racked up 77 combined tackles and two picks.
Will Hill has the talent to play in the NFL and that means that he’ll probably land a job elsewhere as talent usually finds a home in pro football. For now, he’ll have to concentrate on the “professional” side of football and hopefully a change of scenery will help Hill get his head straight.
The bong will still be there when you retire Will.
