On October 25th, the NFL will provide a global live stream for one of its games in a “first-ever partnership” with Yahoo.
The league chose this year’s Bills-Jaguars game in London as its test case for online streaming. Granted, it’s not a marquee match up but it’s a nice first step.
The game will still be shown on television in both team markets, so the handfuls of Bills and Jaguars fans that exist within Buffalo and Jacksonville will still get to watch the game on TV if they so desire.
The NFL is enlisting the help of Yahoo to stream the London-based game through its various platforms, including Yahoo, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Screen and Tumblr. So, for at least one day, Tumblr will be used for something other than posting gifs of television shows.
