The Tennessee Titans did not exactly commit to a starting quarterback of the future this season, bouncing between Will Levis and Mason Rudolph toward the end of the season. And it sounds like the team is open to adding a new quarterback this offseason.
Following Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans, the Tennessee Titans secured the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Head coach Brian Callahan did not rule out the possibility of selecting a quarterback with the top pick, but he suggested the team could bring in a veteran player.
“We’re in position to potentially draft a quarterback,” Callahan said according to the team website. “We’re in position to, with the cap stability and flexibility we have, to potentially sign a veteran quarterback. And, so, we’re going to explore every avenue to do that.”
But regardless of how they approach the situation, it is pretty clear that the Titans expect to have a new starting quarterback next season.
“There’s a lot of ways you can do this process and we’ll unturn every stone to find out what the best one is for us. There’s a lot of work to be done between now and those decision-making times. But yeah, I think it’s very clear that that’s a position that we have to do our due diligence on and our work on both in free agency and into the draft,” Callahan said.
The Titans had Levis, Rudolph and Trevor Siemian on their roster this season, but both Rudolph and Siemian are free agents and are expected to leave the team.
None of the quarterbacks on the roster provided the level of consistency that the Titans hoped to get from their players, leading to the decision to go after a new quarterback.
We’ll have to see what the Titans decide to do at the game’s most important position this offseason, but it’s clear they have a lot of options.
