Anyone hoping that the new Taylor Swift album The Tortured Poets Department would feature a reference to boyfriend Travis Kelce was certainly not disappointed when the new record dropped on Friday at midnight as one of the songs was full of references to her football player boyfriend.
The 15th track on the album, titled “The Alchemy” very clearly references the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and their recent Super Bowl title, particularly in the chorus.
“Shirts off, and your friends lift you up, over their heads
Beer stickin’ to the floor, cheers chanted ’cause they said
‘There was no chance trying to be the greatest in the league’
Where’s the trophy? He just comes, running over to me”
The football references continue in the chorus of the song:
“Touch down
Call the amateurs and cut ’em from the team
Ditch the clowns, get the crown
Baby, I’m the one to be
‘Cause the sign on your heart
Said it’s still reserved for me
Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?”
If Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift remain together in the coming years, it’s safe to say that this will probably be the first of many songs that mention their romance.
