Earlier this month, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made some controversial comments during a commencement address that many have deemed sexist as he suggested that the “most important” role for women is as “homemakers.” He also quoted noted feminist Taylor Swift in that same speech, and Swifties don’t seem happy about it.

In the speech, Harrison Butker quoted the lyric “familiarity breeds contempt” from the Taylor Swift song “Bejeweled” from her Midnights album.

“As my teammate’s girlfriend says: ‘Familiarity breeds contempt,’” Butker said during the speech.

As one fan pointed out, though, Butker did not seem to pay attention to the rest of the song because the entire message behind the song isn’t something that Butker would have liked to include in his speech.

“I actually think that Harrison Butker quoting Taylor Swift in his dumpster fire of a speech is hilarious when you consider that the song he quoted (Bejeweled) is about a successful woman telling a mediocre man to step aside so she can shine,” McKenzie Hopson David said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Needless to say, Swifties were not happy at all about Butker quoting Swift in a speech they deemed as sexist and misogynistic – especially when he didn’t seem to understand the context of the whole song.

Clearly, Butker upset the Swifties.
