Taylor Swift was already one of the most famous individuals on the planet, but her popularity has soared in recent years, aided by her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce who brought her into the world of sports and in front of a new audience. That fame is certainly reflected in her astounding net worth, but not everyone is happy about it.
This week, Forbes, announced that Taylor Swift has now passed Rihanna as the wealthiest female musician with an estimated net worth of $1.6 billion. She now ranks as the No. 24 wealthiest American self-made woman and the No. 2,545 richest person on the entire planet.
Swift now has a greater net worth than the entire GDP of at least 18 different countries across the globe.
While many of her fans celebrated the accomplishment and even vowed to give her more money, not everyone saw this as a positive headline.
Following the news, many people took to social media to express outrage at the wealth she has amassed, seeing it as a sign of greed.
“reminder that we all love Taylor Swift but she is not and never will be an ethical billionaire,” one person said.
“Imagine being this rich, you cant even support the charity or charity event of your supposed to be partner. Awful human,” a person added.
“The way she has to be sending them the numbers….never beating the greedy allegations i fear,” another person added.
“Climate criminal and eco terrorist,” another fan added.
“‘no make up, no fashion lines, no perfumes…’ just the encouraging of blatant hyper-consumption, ambiguous ethical practices, and the owning of multiple mega mansions,” another person criticized.
“why should we be proud of someone hoarding this much wealth?” another person questioned.
“As a ts fan: you gotta be deeply evil in your heart to amass this much money,” another fan wrote.
“Why are people acting like this is good news?” another fan wrote.
“Remember there is no such thing as an ethical billionaire,” another person added.
Clearly, not everyone is happy for her.
