One of the best stories of the still nascent 2013 NFL season has to be New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas’ attempt at coming back from a third torn ACL.

On Saturday, Thomas took his first step towards accomplishing the league’s most badass feat since Adrian Peterson’s miraculous 2012 comeback MVP-winning campaign by making the G-Men’s final 53-man roster.

Twice the Giants leading tackler in 2009 and 2010, Thomas seemed destined for a Pro Bowl season in 2011 before a torn right ACL suffered during a preseason game against the Chicago Bears knocked him out for the entire 2011 Giants Super Bowl campaign.

Thomas had already suffered the same injury six years earlier at USC, making his return seem bleak enough.

Hampering Thomas’ return to the field even further was a third tear of his ACL during Big Blue’s 2012 training camp. To make the story even more heart-wrenching, Thomas had just recently thanked Giants fans for sticking by him during his recovery by handing out t-shirts one day after practice.

As BleacherReport’s Tamer Chamma points out, the only other player to comeback from a third ACL tear is Carolina’s Thomas Davis. Now as a member of the the Giants Opening Day roster, Thomas has a chance to achieve his lofty goal and with a Giants secondary depleted by injuries, he has a great opportunity to make an impact in 2013.

Best of luck T2.
