On Tuesday, Giants punter Steve Weatherford and former wide receiver Sidney Rice announced that they will donate their brains to science to study the relationship between chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and football.
The two broke the news on Fox and Friends and shared their motivations for donating their brains to science post-mortem.

The study of CTE and its relationship to football has already started a dialogue of whether it’s even safe to let kids play football. Steve admitted that he wouldn’t let his son play contact football until he is sixteen due to the dangers that football poses to developing brains. Sidney felt the same way, noting that “hopefully, it’s a lot safer then than it is now.”
While there’s no certainty that football will ever be a “safe” sport, kudos to Sidney and Steve for donating their brains to science so that future generations may be able to play a more safe form of the game.
