Russell Wilson looked like the quarterback Pittsburgh Steelers fans have been missing since the departure of the franchise legend and future hall of fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger when he returned from injury and replaced Justin Fields in Week Seven.
The Steelers’ offense took a massive leap and the team rattled off a quick winning streak. Then things fell apart to close the season.
Russell Wilson’s play took a steep decline to close out the regular season, and his struggles coincided with a four-game losing streak to close out the season that cost the Steelers their standing in the AFC North.
Pittsburgh then lost their fifth straight game to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoff 28-14, in a game that was even less competitive than the score would indicate.
Now, according to The Pat McAfee Show’s Mark Kaboly, ownership in Pittsburgh knows that the quarterback play is a major issue that needs addressing before the team can worry about anything else.
“Art Rooney II just spoke to a dozen of us. He really harped on finding a quarterback.
“Said that he would like to have either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields back but No. 1 on the list is fixing the QB room,” Kaboly reported on Monday.

Fans reacted to Rooney II’s words on social media.
“If we keep Russ and let Justin walk, I’ll complain a lot on the internet. Then I’ll wave my terrible towel. Sigh. Here We Go,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“That’s disappointing… hoped that he would have a different message beyond quarterback… sounds like the family are not that upset about watching the Chiefs every year?” one fan added.
“Him even mentioning russ shows nothing is changing,” another fan added.
“well it ain’t happening with this QB class so he better give the kid the reigns,” offered someone else.
It’ll be interesting to see if Wilson is on Pittsburgh’s roster at all for the 2025 season.
