Former Chicago Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields now has his work cut out for him next season if he wants to start for his new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. But according to Fields, he intends to fight as hard as he can to earn the starting job.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has already publicly shared that Russell Wilson is currently the quarterback on the Steelers roster that will receiving starters reps this offseason.
With that in mind, Fields will have to prove that he gives the Steelers a better chance to win than Wilson. He discussed his situation in a recent press conference, saying that he “doesn’t have the mindset of sitting all year”.
“I definitely don’t have the mindset of sitting all year,” said Fields via NFL reporter James Palmer. “I’m coming in every day, giving it all I got.”
Field has certainly shown some real upside thus far in his career, particularly with his ability to make plays with his legs while scrambling.
In that department, he is likely a little better than Russell Wilson is at this point in both of their careers. But Wilson clearly holds an experience edge over Fields, and is a bit more of a proven commodity at the highest level.
Only time will tell whether Fields will receive a real opportunity at the starting job. But if he does, he sure sounds incredibly prepared to make the most of it.
