The Denver Broncos found themselves in need of a new quarterback this offseason after parting ways with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson back in March. The team selected former Oregon Ducks star Bo Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the NFL Draft to hopefully fill that void, and it sounds like he is already impressing his new head coach with how prepared he is for the professional ranks.
During a recent press conference, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton had some high praise for Bo Nix for just how intelligent and experienced he is even this early in his NFL career.
“He’s farther along than most would be,” Payton said according to DNVR. “We’re talking about a player who’s played 61 games. He’s extremely smart. He’s picked it up very quickly.”
The Broncos have a couple of other veteran quarterbacks on the roster with Jarrett Stidham returning and the team adding former New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson this offseason. They, along with Nix, will be competing for the team’s starting spot this offseason.
It’s not yet clear who will be the starting quarterback of the team this upcoming season, but based on these comments from Payton, it sounds like Nix has a very real chance to win the job.
