Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix has not been with the team all that long, but it sounds like he is already making an impression on his new head coach.
The Broncos selected Bo Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft earlier this year as the team looks for their next starting quarterback after cutting former starter Russell Wilson. And it sounds like Broncos head coach Sean Payton likes what he has seen from his young quarterback so far, even going as far as to compare him to future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees.
“You see pretty good pocket sense,” Payton said according to Pro Football Talk. “Doesn’t take a lot of sacks. I think when he knows when the play’s over, time to go, and then, I think he can make plays when he’s going. I used to say this all the time, ‘The sack numbers are a reflection more on the quarterback than the offensive line.’ And there are some — Brees was one of those guys. He was a tough sack. The ball came out and I think Bo has traits like that.”
Nix is competing with veteran NFL quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson for the starting quarterback job this preseason. We’ll have to see which of them ultimately earns the role.
