As the start of the 2024 NFL season approaches, the New Orleans Saints are making changes to their quarterback room.
On Friday, the Saints announced that they have released Nathan Peterman. In a corresponding move, New Orleans signed wide receiver Samson Nacua, who is the older brother of Los Angeles Rams wide receiver and 2023 second-team All-Pro selection Puka Nacua.
The Saints originally signed Peterman this past offseason in an attempt to add depth behind veteran starter Derek Carr. With Peterman no longer on its roster, New Orleans’ quarterback room now consists of Carr, Jake Haener and rookie Spencer Rattler. Taysom Hill also remains a part of the Saints’ roster and has played quarterback for them in the past.
As for Peterman, he joined New Orleans after having spent the last two seasons as a member of the Chicago Bears. Prior to Chicago, the Pittsburgh product had spent parts of four seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (2018-2021) and parts of two seasons with the Buffalo Bills (2017-2018).
Over the course of his career, the 30-year-old Peterman has appeared in 15 regular-season games (five starts), completing 53.1 percent of his passes for 712 yards, four touchdowns and 13 interceptions. It will be interesting to see how the market shakes out for him as there always seems to be teams interested in adding an experienced quarterback.
