If you thought that the Seahawks’ victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game was something which could only be explained through divine intervention, you’re not alone.
Russell Wilson is right there with you.
The Seahawks quarterback should get plenty of credit for executing a dramatic comeback in the fourth quarter and overtime but the need for a comeback was largely on Wilson’s shoulders to begin with thanks to four interceptions which Wilson gifted the Packers over the course of the game.
In an interview with Peter King after the game, Wilson stated that his four interceptions were just a part of God’s plan to make the game exciting:
I found Wilson afterward, and asked him about the four picks, and going from the worst game of his life to the most exhilarating in the span of eight minutes of game time.
“That’s God setting it up, to make it so dramatic, so rewarding, so special,” he said, alone for a moment in the locker room before heading out for the night. “I’ve been through a lot in life, and had some ups and downs. It’s what’s led me to this day.”
Clearly, the Green Bay Packers would have won that game if only they had prayed harder.
