The Pittsburgh Steelers will be starting the season with a new quarterback after the short-lived Kenny Pickett era came to a close when they traded the former first-round draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. But after Russell Wilson won the starting job over Justin Fields after a quarterback battle during the offseason, it seems like his status for the season opener is now in question
On Thursday, Mike Tomlin told reporters that Russell Wilson reported calf tightness and is set to undergo further evaluation by doctors. He was limited in practice.

This comes after a training camp and preseason where Wilson already missed multiple practices and preseason game action due to lingering injuries, allowing Fields, currently listed as No. 2 on the depth chart, to get more reps and fluidity with the first-team offense.
If the veteran and former Super Bowl champion is unavailable the Steelers will likely turn to Fields. Fields was traded to Pittsburgh in the offseason after a less-than-glamorous stint with the Chicago Bears and is hoping to revitalize what was once viewed as one of the most promising young careers in the league.
Steelers fans will be anxiously awaiting further updates ahead of Sunday’s opener against the Atlanta Falcons.
