Russell Wilson was named the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers before the start of the season before a calf injury sidelined him for the first five games of the season. Now, the Steelers have a decision to make.

Justin Fields has started the first five games of the season for the Steelers. Through three games, the team had an undefeated 3-0 record and many were clamoring for him to keep the job over Wilson. But with the Steelers losing two games in a row since then, NFL insider Mike Florio points out that the team now has a decision to make.

“The Steelers have lost two in a row. Fields was not particularly sharp on Sunday night against the Cowboys, where Dallas significantly outplayed Pittsburgh but barely won. It could be time, with a game against the Raiders up next, to let Wilson knock off the rust in advance of a pair of prime-time games against the New York/New Jersey teams,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.

“Coach Mike Tomlin meets with reporters every Tuesday. The quarterback situation will be the first topic for questions, unless Tomlin addresses the topic (as he might) in his opening remarks.

“Regardless, the door is now open for Wilson to play. He’s still the starter. With the offense needing a spark, now might be the time to start him.”

It’s a big decision for the Steelers, and it led to a lot of conversation on social media.

“Wilson is Tomlin’s guy. Has been from day one… He’s been waiting for Fields to fail,” one fan wrote on X.

“It won’t matter, the offense as a whole absolutely sucks,” another fan added.

“He will also have no one to throw to, an underdeveloped line from poor coaching, and a conservative coach looking to stat-pad and sell tickets. Fields isn’t the problem,” another fan said.

“The Steelers loss last night was not on Justin Fields. That kid drove his team down the field and scored a touchdown without much time left on the clock. The defense gave the last two games away but you people are ready to blame him. You’re are pathetic,” another fan wrote.

“The playcalling has not helped Fields at all,” another fan said.

We’ll have to see what the Steelers decide to do.
