Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made some controversial comments earlier this month when he criticized transgender people, mocked the LGBTQ community, spoke out against fertility treatments for women, and suggested that women should be “homemakers.” But NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell does not seem to see an issue with his speech.
During an interview at the NFL’s ownership meetings in Nashville, Roger Goodell defended Harrison Butker a little bit as he made it clear that the NFL is proud of the diversity and different opinions throughout the league, including those from Butker.
“Listen, we have over 3,000 players,” Goodell said regarding Butker according to ESPN. “We have executives around the league. They have a diversity of opinions and thoughts, just like America does. I think that’s something that we treasure and that’s part of, I think, ultimately what makes us as a society better.”
Butker’s words caused a strong reaction throughout the country as many people expressed their outrage at his opinions and called for him to be punished by the league or the Kansas City Chiefs. But based on these comments from Goodell, it sounds like there will be no such punishment from either the league or the team.
