NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently suggested that he would be interested in replacing some NFL preseason games with more regular season games. But one player is certainly not a fan of that plan.
During a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show before the NFL Draft this weekend, Roger Goodell revealed that he is “not a fan of the preseason” and would prefer to have more regular season games.
“I think we’re good at 17 now,” Goodell said. “But, listen, we’re looking at how we continue. I’m not a fan of the preseason.… The reality is, I’d rather replace a preseason game with a regular-season game any day. That’s just picking quality.
But New England Patriots center David Andrews strongly disagrees.

“With all due respect, you don’t need it cause you’re not suiting up and there’s a lot of veterans who don’t,” Andrews wrote on his Instagram Stories, in a screenshot captured by Mike Giardi. “But there’s a lot of young players and undrafted guys who need it to develop and prove they deserve a chance to play. But [heck], maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.”
Obviously, this response from Andrews led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Roger is not worried about the quality of play. Roger is worried about putting another money-making opportunity on the calendar. Let's not be stupid or disingenuous about it. Call it what it is. https://t.co/3sFbfxeiiW

I do find it funny that 18-22 year old kids can have one month of “training camp” where they only get to practice against themselves and then they’re able to play real games right away, but NFL players/prospects wouldn’t be able to handle no preseason games. https://t.co/PVQrxqWXqu

Shortened pre-season with more games has been horrible for the NFL. It’s incredible how popular and also unwatchable it’s become https://t.co/hwULCU66pS

As usual, David Andrews speaks nothing but the truth. https://t.co/fpDoiiXd31
