With Russell Wilson and Justin Fields competing for the starting quarterback spot this preseason, the fans and the media will undoubtedly be reading into every little detail during practice to try to get a hint about where each player stands in the competition. And it sounds like head coach Mike Tomlin is trying to get ahead of that.
Mike Tomlin knows that he has a decision to make, but he said that “nothing has changed” in regard to the competition between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. according to Pro Football Talk When asked how the reps will be split up between the two quarterbacks during spring training, Tomlin made it clear that he will be careful to not provide any hints about his decision.
“Very carefully,” Tomlin said. “You think I’m actually going to back myself into a corner so you guys are gonna ask me daily about the rep allocations? No way. I’ve been on the job too long for that.”
Clearly, Tomlin wants to keep the discussion about the quarterback competition in-house and does not want to feed any speculation about the impending decision in the media and among fans.
We’ll have to see how that goes for him and the team.
