The Pittsburgh Steelers have obviously made several major moves at the quarterback position this offseason, signing Russell Wilson after his departure from Denver, trading for Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears, and then trading previous starter Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles. And the team added another quarterback this week.
Following the NFL Draft this weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed former UCF Golden Knights quarterback John Rhys Plumlee to compete for a spot on the roster.
“Extremely fired up to be a part of #SteelerNation #HereWeGo” Plumlee said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Though Plumlee played quarterback for UCF for the past two seasons and was recruited as a quarterback out of college, he is far more versatile than simply an in-the-pocket passer. Plumlee is a better runner than he is a passer, filling a sort of Taysom Hill role for Ole Miss before transferring to UCF, and even playing wide receiver for the team in the Outback Bowl following the 2021 season.
Needless to say, it will certainly be interesting to see how the Steelers try to utilize such a unique and versatile talent in their offense in the upcoming seasons.
