With the Denver Broncos, Peyton Manning has thrown 131 touchdowns against 36 interceptions and set the NFL record for single season touchdown passes (55) and yards (5,477).
He did this all while not having feeling in his fingertips, and he’s a quarterback. Last time I checked, feeling in the fingertips were necessary to throw a football.
The question isn’t “how did he win the league MVP in 2013 while not having feeling in his fingertips?” The question is “how does the man even throw a freaking football?” He revealed his troubling situation in an interview with MMQB’s Peter King. Transcribed by Bleacher Report:
I can’t feel anything in my fingertips. It’s crazy. I’ve talked to a doctor recently who said, Don’t count on the feeling coming back. It was hard for me for about two years, because one doctor told me I could wake up any morning and it might come back. So you wake up every day thinking, Today’s the day! Then it’s not.
Tom Brady revealed in personal emails that he thinks that the Broncos’s quarterbacks days are numbered. But if his numbers are up across the board at 36, 37, and 38, without feeling in his fingers, then who knows?
Manning threw 12 of his 15 interceptions in the last two months of the season in 2014. It was then discovered that he was playing on a quad injury. The Broncos play a very pass-happy offense, and if they can protect their quarterback, then maybe Brady and the rest of the league just might be wrong.
