The New England Patriots were buzzing at the start of the year, with tons of excitement surrounding rookie quarterback Drake Maye and first-year head coach Jerod Mayo. Unfortunately, the pair of up-and-comers never quite put things together.
The Patriots finished the season 4-13 despite Maye showing flashes at points. With how disappointing things turned out in New England, the Pats are deciding to take the franchise in a different direction, according to one prominent NFL insider.
“The (Patriots) are moving on from coach Jerod Mayo, as the handpicked successor to Bill Belichick goes one-and-done,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Sunday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“good shot they’re going this cause vrabel’s gonna take the job for what it’s worth,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“So the Patriots move on from Belichick, one of the greatest coaches in the game, and fire their new coach after a failed 1st year. Yet the Steelers have been sticking with mediocre Mike Tomlin who only has 3 playoff wins in the last 13 years? Steelers are such an unserious org,” one fan added.
“He didn’t do great, but he also had one of the worst teams to work with in the NFL by a large margin. I think Kraft and Pats fans are in for a continued era of disappointment when they realize 20 years of dominance isn’t the norm,” another fan added.
“Couldn’t win when it counted, and couldn’t lose when it counted,” someone else wrote.
“But like…what expectations can the front office have with him with the team that they have on the field?” one fan wanted to know.
It’ll be interesting to see who Mayo’s replacement is.
