Before Patrick Mahomes was a full-time football player, he was actually a good enough baseball player to get selected by the Detroit Tigers in college. And it sounds like he’s considering a move that would allow him to show off his baseball skills a little bit.
During a recent interview with Time Magazine, Patrick Mahomes revealed that he would like to do spring training with the Kansas City Royals at some point in the future to “see what I got” when it comes to his baseball ability.
“I’ve talked to the Royals,” Mahomes told Time. “And if I can maybe go out to a spring training, I’m not opposed to that. I’ll get it approved by the Chiefs and everything like that. But maybe one of these years I go out there and see what I got. See if I can still hit the ball or pitch or whatever that is. Maybe not in the games but I can at least practice with them.”
Obviously, it’s been a long time since Mahomes played baseball competitively and he’s spent the vast majority of his time honing his craft as one of the top players in the NFL. So it would be interesting to see if he can still perform on the baseball diamond.
