The Kansas City Chiefs have certainly taken a step back on the offensive side of the ball this year. But as they head into the playoffs, it sounds like Patrick Mahomes still expects them to step into a different gear and perform better than they have all season.

During a recent press conference, Patrick Mahomes had a pretty clear message for the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of this week’s showdown with the Miami Dolphins, saying he is “extremely confident” that the team’s offense can perform better in the playoffs despite how they’ve played all season.

“Not only in our offense, but in our football team,” Mahomes said in his press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “You see how the defense is playing, offensively I feel like we’re going to play our best football at the right time. I think if we can just score — we don’t even have to score too many points if we can just score enough points our defense will shut the door and we can find a way to get the win.”

While the Chiefs haven’t necessarily performed poorly this season, they have certainly taken a stop back on offense. Last year, the team ranked No. 1 in the NFL in both yardage and points, but this year they rank No. 9 in yards and No. 15 in scoring. We’ll have to see if Mahomes’ prediction turns out to be correct.
