Buying Twitter followers is a common practice for companies, websites, brands and even professional sports organizations. Some agree with the concept and others don’t. Whatever the case may be, it’s pretty harmless because there are plenty of audit tools available for anyone to determine how many followers are fake.
Apparently the Carolina Panthers either didn’t know that or they don’t think enough people will call them out for it to actually matter. Well, we’re calling them out.
The team tweeted a celebratory message on Monday for reaching one million followers:

Congrats…for reaching nearly 500,000 followers and having 500,000 fake accounts. The numbers below are a few days behind because Twitter Audit needs time to measure new followers, but they clearly show that Panthers either bought thousands of fake accounts (which, again, is fine but do not congratulate yourself for doing so) or they just happen to receive an unprecedented number of fake followers:
